President Trump calls for de-escalation between India and Pakistan and offers to help amid rising tensions following India's precision strikes on terror camps a
On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump offered to mediate between India and Pakistan amid escalating tensions, expressing concern over the growing conflict and urging both nations to de-escalate. “It’s terrible. I know both countries well and want them to work things out,” Trump said, according to ANI. “They’ve gone back and forth already, and hopefully it stops now. We have good relations with both, and I want it to end.” He also stated his willingness to assist in any way possible to ease the situation.
Trump’s comments came in response to a question regarding rising hostilities between the two South Asian nations. His remarks followed India’s announcement of precision airstrikes targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The strikes were carried out under “Operation Sindoor” in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam district, which claimed 26 lives, mostly civilians.
Earlier in the day, Trump had remarked during a press conference that he had just learned of the developments. Reflecting on the long history of conflict between India and Pakistan, he said, “They’ve been fighting for many decades—centuries even. I just hope it ends very quickly.”
According to India’s Defence Ministry, the strikes were a targeted and measured response to the Pahalgam attack. The ministry emphasized that the action did not involve Pakistani military sites, highlighting India’s deliberate and non-escalatory stance.
The strikes follow a series of strong measures taken by India against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari land border crossing, and downgrading diplomatic relations. These steps were part of New Delhi’s response to the recent terror attack and rising cross-border tensions.
