Leonardo DiCaprio, the actor and environmental activist, was recently spotted collecting plastic waste from the sea off Formentera, Spain, as part of a documentary on Posidonia oceanica, an endangered seagrass vital to the Mediterranean ecosystem.
DiCaprio, who joined children in cleaning the beach, was praised by some for his environmental efforts. However, his participation sparked online criticism, with many pointing out his frequent use of private jets and yachts, questioning the consistency of his environmental activism.
Social media users sarcastically remarked on his “carbon footprint” and wondered if he traveled to the location in a private jet or mega yacht. Some defended him, acknowledging his efforts, while others criticized the apparent hypocrisy. Earlier this year, DiCaprio faced backlash after taking a private jet to escape the LA fires, leading to further scrutiny of his “climate warrior” image. In response, he donated $1 million for wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles County.
