In a tidy triumph, Ahmedabad emerges as the cleanest city in the 1 million population category in Swachh Survekshan, surpassing Bhopal and Lucknow through civic
Ahmedabad secured the top spot in the Swachh Survekshan rankings under the 1 million population category, marking a clean victory for the city and its citizens. This achievement of Ahmedabad, beating challenging cities like Bhopal and Lucknow, is not just the cleanliness of roads, but it is the result of a change, policy and constant change in the participation of the community.
From vibrant murals on public walls to well-maintained parks and innovative waste management systems, Ahmedabad’s urban transformation reflects a deep-rooted civic pride. The city’s municipal teams worked round-the-clock, not just to clean but to engage. Local schools, residential colonies, and market associations were all part of this movement turning cleanliness into a collective responsibility.
Citizens like 52 -year old Rajesh Patel, who run a roadside food stall, suggest that now garbage lifting vehicles come regularly and awareness campaigns have changed the attitude of people to throw garbage. He proudly said, "We never thought that cleanliness would become such a large part of our identity."
This achievement also shows the efficiency of Ahmedabad's Smart City Scheme. Separation at the source of waste, digitized complaint system and AI-based hygiene surveillance played an important role.
This victory is an inspiration for other cities that are trying to balance between development and living environment. The success of Ahmedabad shows that when the administration and the public walk together, the most ambitious city development dreams can also be realized.
