FIR lodged in ASI Sandeep Kumar suicide implicating IPS officer wife and brother in law.
The police investigation into the shocking suicide of ASI Sandeep Kumar Lathar has taken a dramatic new turn. In Rohtak, authorities have registered an FIR under charges of abetment of suicide and criminal conspiracy, naming key individuals who appeared in a video message apparently recorded by the deceased.
According to police, the FIR lists Amneet P. Kumar (wife of late IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar), her brother Amit Rattan, former ASI Sushil Kumar, and another police officer Sunil as accused in the complaint lodged by Sandeep’s family. The FIR is based in part on the allegations made in the six-minute video Sandeep recorded just before his death he claimed he possessed evidence of corruption and pressure from senior officers.
In his final words, Sandeep claimed that the late IPS officer had “killed himself to avoid humiliation” and that powerful forces were trying to silence him. He also alleged that he faced threats and harassment after arresting Sushil Kumar in a bribery case tied to liquor contractor dealings.
The case has become politically and administratively sensitive. The Haryana government finds itself navigating dual pressures: handling public outrage and ensuring an impartial investigation. Meanwhile, Sandeep’s family had earlier declined consent for his postmortem until an FIR was filed naming the accused a demand which has now been satisfied.
The death is seen in light of another recent tragedy IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar himself had died by suicide days earlier, leaving behind allegations against his subordinates. Observers worry that the twin cases raise deeper questions of institutional accountability and caste-based power dynamics inside police and administrative systems.
As investigations continue, legal experts and political leaders are calling for oversight beyond state machinery. Some demand a probe by the CBI or judicial supervision, to ensure no undue pressure or interference. The family and public alike await more clarity from forensic, video, and documentary evidence hoping that the tragic loss might yet expose wrongdoing and restore trust in law enforcement.
