Ukrainian President Zelenskyy calls for India to reassess energy ties with Russia citing diplomatic concerns.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he hope stronger diplomatic engagement between India and West can make New Delhi reconsider it’s energy import from Russia. In an interview with Fox News, Zelenskyy say that India should think carefully about its energy tie with Russia.
He asked the West, especially United States and Europe, to make more effort to engage India and discourage they from buying oil from Russia. Zelenskyy also said that better diplomatic tries could helps India rethink how it getting energy from Russia.
Even though he know India has reasons for importing energy, he show confidence that U.S. President Donald Trump can handle those issue. Zelenskyy also told that closer cooperation between Europe and India can maybe shift New Delhi’s position about energy from Russia.
His comment come in context of global alignments, specially with countries which are seen close to Russia. Zelenskyy repeated he belief that India still a possible partner for West, even if it continue buying energy from Russia.
The Ukrainian president’s statement shows ongoing diplomatic effort to match global energy policy with geopolitics, and show how national interest and international relation are connected in today’s world.
