According to a Bloomberg report, this gesture helped spark a subtle thaw in India China relations, setting the stage for a diplomatic reset. 

The timing was telling: President Trump’s aggressive tariffs sowed unease, nudging Beijing to reach out beyond traditional channels and India responded in kind. This backchannel led to both countries agreeing to revive stalling border negotiations one of the most concrete steps since the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020. 

Diplomacy appears ready for its spotlight moment: Prime Minister Modi’s long-anticipated visit to China this weekend his first in seven years marks a pivotal turn in bilateral ties. Plans for renewed economic cooperation, including clean-energy partnerships and eased travel arrangements, are reportedly in the works. 

Interestingly, some experts wryly note that Trump’s trade war had an unintended consequence it served as a “great peacemaker,” driving rival giants back towards each other.
