These workers engaged in construction work were digging the 18 -feet deep waste water tunnel, when a part of the tunnel collapsed and their path was closed. They climbed on piles of unstable clay which were up to 15 feet high in some places - reached a safe place and met their other colleagues there. He was then brought back safely to the entrance of the tunnel located miles away.
The Los Angeles Fire Department deployed more than 100 personnel for the withdrawal campaign, including teams working in specially trained narrow places. The rescue teams continued to work without tired, because they knew that time is very important in such an emergency situation. The interim chief of the LAFD later said that it was "Kismat Saath" that no one was seriously injured.
Mayor Karen Bais reached the spot and called the dedicated rescuers "LA's real heroes". He also appreciated the bravery of the workers who remained calm even under pressure.
