After the 25% tariff imposed by the US on India, questions have started to arise whether India will also give a strong response like China and Brazil or will re
After former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on India, the global trade community has been stirred. When countries like China and Brazil faced similar pressure, they responded strongly, forcing the U.S. to back down. Now the question arises—can India do the same?
Trump claims that India is adopting policies harmful to American industries, and therefore, increasing tariffs is necessary. Although the Indian government has not yet issued an official response, experts believe that India has several strategic options.
China had retaliated with counter-tariffs, which impacted several U.S. industries, while Brazil filed a complaint against the U.S. at the WTO. India, if it chooses, can exert pressure through its strong export sectors—such as IT, pharmaceuticals, and automobiles.
India’s rapidly growing economic influence and the trust of global investors indicate that the country is no longer a silent player. In the coming days, it will be interesting to see how India responds to this tariff dispute through diplomacy and trade strategy.
