Mass protests erupt in France after Macron appoints Sébastien Lecornu PM, sparking anger, violence, and arrests.
France is currently gripped by nationwide protests. After President Emmanuel Macron appointed his close ally Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister, public anger erupted.
Under the banner of the "Block Everything" movement, thousands of people took to the streets. From the capital Paris to several other cities, demonstrators held rallies and opposed government policies. Within just a few hours, incidents of violence and vandalism were reported.
Officials said that more than 200 people have been arrested so far. Analysts believe Lecornu’s appointment has acted as a spark for an already frustrated public, and the protests may intensify in the coming days.
