During the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in Washington D.C., Usha Vance, the Second Lady of the United States, discourse about her deeply personal and heartwarming event of visiting India. She reflected fondly on her family’s special moments, especially their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it one of the catchiest parts of the trip.
Usha described the discussion with PM Modi as a “very special moment.” Her children, charmed by his kindness, saw him almost like a grandfather’s place. She recalled how PM Modi won their hearts further by giving her five-year-old son a thoughtful birthday present during an previous meeting in Paris.
She called the journey a “trip of a lifetime,” especially since it was her children’s first time in India. Although they had grown up learning about Indian food, traditions, and close family relations, experiencing it firsthand left them surprised. From their perspective, it was really a mind-blowing and joyful experience.
The visit to the Prime Minister’s residence brought many joyful moments. Her son Ewan was influenced by a cart full of juicy mangoes and even joked about wanting to live there. He was also captivated by beautiful temple sculptures. Her middle child, Vivek, was thrilled to see elephants, camels, and peacocks, while her daughter loved the excitement of riding in an auto-rickshaw.
Usha appreciated how warmly PM Modi welcomed the children, letting them explore his farm and even gifting them peacock feathers. She said the conversation between her husband, Vice President JD Vance, and PM Modi were not only warm but also sensible and active.
Overall, the visit left a lasting hit on her entire family filled with happiness, cultural ethics, and genuine human connection.
