Trump Hints at ‘Very Big’ Trade Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of a “very big” trade agreement with India following the announcement of a new trade pact with China. Speaking during a White House event centred on government spending, Trump highlighted recent successes in international trade and suggested that India could be next on the list. “We just signed a trade deal with China... We have one coming up, maybe with India, a very big one,” he remarked.

Trump noted that the new China deal would help open previously restricted trade avenues and expressed optimism about improved economic relations. Without revealing specifics, he stated that his administration preferred pursuing strategic trade deals over imposing tariffs, even though the latter remains an option. “We’re going to open up India... Things that never really could have happened before,” Trump said, underscoring the administration’s shift towards fostering bilateral partnerships.

The statement aligns with earlier remarks made by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, where he indicated that both countries were close to finalising a mutually beneficial trade agreement. Lutnick described the ongoing talks as “in a very, very good place,” hinting that a formal deal could be expected soon. As global dynamics evolve, the potential India-US trade agreement is seen as a major move to deepen ties between two of the world’s largest democracies, potentially impacting sectors such as technology, defence, and pharmaceuticals. Observers now await further developments, as both nations look to strengthen economic and strategic cooperation.
