Trump Hints at Progress in U.S.-Iran Nuclear Talks, Possible Announcement Soon

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program were making headway, hinting that a potential announcement could be made within the next two days. Speaking to reporters in northern New Jersey after leaving his golf club, Trump expressed optimism about the recent round of talks, describing them as “very, very good” and noting “serious progress” over the weekend discussions.

While Trump struck a hopeful tone, the Omani mediator—facilitating the discussions in Rome—was more reserved, stating on Friday, May 23, that the fifth round of negotiations had yielded “some but not conclusive” progress. Despite this, Trump said, “I think we could have some good news on the Iran front,” without confirming the nature of any potential deal.

U.S. representatives at the Rome talks, held at the Omani Embassy, included Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff and Michael Anton, Director of Policy Planning at the State Department. The dialogue between the United States and Iran is focused on reaching an agreement to limit Tehran’s nuclear activities in return for the easing of American economic sanctions placed on Iran.
