US President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself in papal attire after jokingly expressing a desire to become the Pope. This post followed his attendance at Pope Francis' funeral, where he paid his respects, sitting in the front row at St. Peter’s Square. Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff, passed away on April 22 at the age of 88, after suffering a stroke that led to his heart failure.
While some found Trump’s post humorous, many social media users criticized it as insensitive, accusing him of mocking the Pope's death. One comment called it "disrespectful to the church and God," while others labeled it offensive and narcissistic.
When asked who should succeed Pope Francis, Trump jokingly replied, "I'd like to be Pope," although he had no strong preference. He suggested an American cardinal from New York could be a good choice. Pope Francis had been struggling with chronic lung disease, which contributed to his death.
