President Trump says his role in de-escalating nuclear tensions between India and Pakistan won't get due credit. Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif calls for talks, a
U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a Fox News interview on Friday (May 16, 2025) that his intervention in easing tensions between India and Pakistan was a major diplomatic win—one he believes won’t receive the recognition it deserves. Trump claimed the hostility between the two nuclear-armed nations had reached a critical point, with the next step possibly being nuclear escalation. “That’s a bigger success than I’ll ever be given credit for. These are serious nuclear powers, and they were furious,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged both nations to engage in peaceful dialogue to resolve long-standing issues, including Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion of ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ (Day of Thanks) to honour the military, he remarked that the three wars between India and Pakistan had yielded no real outcome.
In a separate development, India’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has reached out to senior leaders across political lines, including from the Opposition and the ruling NDA, as the government plans to send eight delegations to key countries in Europe, West Asia, and Africa. The delegations aim to present India’s stance on the recent escalation with Pakistan. Sources confirmed that several leaders have already agreed to participate.
