Hong Kong evacuates 6000 residents after 1000 pound WWII bomb found at construction site.
In a significant development, near about 6,000 residents was evacuated in Hong Kong after the discovery of a World War II-era US bomb at construction site in Quarry Bay. The bomb, measuring around 1.5 meter long and weighing nearly 1,000 pound (450 kilogram), were finded by construction workers. Authorities called the device very dangerous and started a large-scale evacuation to ensure people’s safety.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau done a careful operation to defuse the bomb, which last until Saturday morning. No injury was reported, and the area now has been declared as safe. This incident show the remaining risk posed by unexploded ordnance from past conflict, even many decades after the end of World War II.
Hong Kong has facing similar incidents before, where unexploded bombs sometimes coming up during construction works. The authorities keep monitor and manage such risk to make sure safety of residents and workers.
