A suicide car bombing targeted a school bus in southwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, killing at least four children and injuring 38 others, according to a government official. The attack occurred in Khuzdar district while the bus was en route to a military-operated school. This incident marks the latest in a series of violent attacks in the restive Balochistan province, which has been plagued by a long-standing insurgency involving several separatist groups, including the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), labeled a terrorist organization by the U.S. in 2019.
Deputy Commissioner Yasir Iqbal confirmed the details of the bombing. While no group has claimed responsibility so far, suspicion falls on Baloch separatist militants who frequently target security personnel and civilians in the area.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, condemned the attack in strong terms, expressing profound grief over the deaths of the children. He denounced the attackers as "beasts" and described the assault on innocent children as an act of “pure barbarism.”
Authorities warned that the death toll could climb, with several children critically injured. This bombing follows another recent attack in Balochistan, where four people were killed in a car explosion near a marketplace in Qillah Abdullah, close to the Afghan border.
Earlier in March, one of the deadliest attacks in the province saw 33 people—mostly soldiers—killed when BLA insurgents launched a deadly assault on a passenger train.
