Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was formally charged on Thursday (July 10, 2025) in a crimes against humanity case, according to media reports. The charges were filed by the country’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), which also indicted former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and ex-Inspector General of Police Abdullah Al Mamun. The case pertains to their alleged role in cracking down on last year’s student-led protests during July and August.
As reported by bdnews24 Mr. Mamun has admitted guilt and has requested to become a state witness. He is currently the only one of the three in custody, while the trial against the other two will move forward in absentia.
Hasina fled to India on August 5, shortly after her Awami League government was overthrown.
