Saudi Arabia’s Adel al-Jubeir met S. Jaishankar in Delhi as India ramps up diplomatic efforts following airstrikes in Pakistan. Talks focused on counterterroris
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel al-Jubeir, made an unannounced visit to New Delhi and met with India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s retaliatory strikes after the Pahalgam terror attack. Jaishankar shared a brief update via social media, noting it was a “good meeting” and that he conveyed India’s firm stance on countering terrorism.
India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, reportedly killed 26 people and injured 46, further intensifying hostilities. The visit followed India's implementation of multiple punitive measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, over Pakistan’s alleged links to the Pahalgam attack.
Just before Jubeir’s arrival, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in Delhi for a scheduled joint commission meeting. Araghchi had previously stirred concern in India by suggesting Iran could mediate between “brotherly” nations India and Pakistan. He had also made a surprise trip to Islamabad days earlier.
Meanwhile, Pakistan confirmed indirect communication between the national security advisers (NSAs) of both countries. Pakistan recently appointed ISI chief Lt Gen Asim Malik as NSA, signaling the military’s increasing control over diplomatic outreach.
