Russian authorities reported on Thursday (July 17, 2025) that air defence units intercepted and destroyed 122 Ukrainian drones overnight, which were aimed at Moscow and several other regions across the country. At least one person was injured in the attacks.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry's statement on Telegram, the majority of the drones were downed over the Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk regions, which share borders with Ukraine. Additionally, three drones were shot down over the Moscow region.

In the Smolensk region, which borders Belarus, one individual sustained minor injuries and a civilian facility suffered light damage, Governor Vasily Anokhin stated on Telegram.

A day earlier, on Wednesday (July 16, 2025), a drone strike attributed to Ukraine resulted in the deaths of three people and injured at least 17 in the Belgorod region, as per regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

Reuters noted it could not independently verify these claims, and there was no immediate response from Ukrainian officials. Both Russia and Ukraine have previously accused each other of targeting civilian areas during the ongoing conflict, now in its fourth year—allegations both nations continue to deny.
