Nigel Farage's right-wing Reform UK party gained momentum in early election results on Friday, winning its fifth parliamentary seat, its first mayoral position, and several local council seats. These victories highlight the growing challenge Reform poses to Britain’s two main political parties, Labour and the Conservatives. Farage, the leader of the populist party and a prominent figure in the Brexit campaign, sees the English local elections as a turning point in breaking the long-standing political dominance of Labour and the Conservatives.

In the closely watched Runcorn and Helsby parliamentary seat, Reform won by just six votes after a full recount, overturning Labour’s previous majority of nearly 15,000. Farage described the results as a significant win for Reform, noting that Labour’s support in its traditional heartlands had collapsed.

Reform also claimed the mayoral race in Greater Lincolnshire, with Andrea Jenkyns, a former Conservative minister, becoming the party's most prominent elected official. This success is a reflection of Labour’s declining popularity under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has faced criticism for tax hikes, cuts to elderly benefits, and donation controversies.

Reform UK's rise in local and mayoral races positions it as a growing force in British politics, potentially challenging the Labour and Conservative parties in future elections, especially the upcoming national election in 2029.
