The meeting comes amid escalating tensions over Trump’s ongoing trade war and threats of annexation. Carney’s Liberal Party recently secured a dramatic election victory, seen as a public rejection of Trump’s policies and rhetoric toward Canada.

“This election was about standing up to President Trump and building a strong economy,” Carney said in his first public remarks since the vote.
