After the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistani ministers come under fire for misinformation and contradictory statements on Indian airstrikes during Operation Sind
Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepalese citizen, Pakistani ministers have found themselves under intense global scrutiny—not only for the country’s continued sheltering of terrorist groups but also for a series of embarrassing missteps during televised interviews. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif recently drew widespread criticism after claiming in a CNN interview that Pakistan’s assertion of having downed five Indian jets, including Rafales, during India’s counter strike ‘Operation Sindoor’ was based solely on social media posts. “It is all available on Indian social media, not ours. The debris landed on their side. It’s everywhere in Indian media,” Asif said when pressed for evidence. India’s Press Information Bureau swiftly debunked the claim, clarifying that the image circulating online was actually from a 2021 crash of an IAF MiG-21 in Punjab’s Moga district.
In the same interview, Asif added that Pakistan was trying to avoid a broader conflict but was prepared for a full-scale war if necessary. “There is a real risk of this conflict escalating into an all-out war, which we are trying to prevent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar faced strong pushback during an interview with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim. While attempting to argue that “there are no terrorist camps in Pakistan” and that the country is a victim of terrorism, Hakim challenged him with statements made by senior Pakistani leaders. “Just last week, your own defence minister admitted on my programme that Pakistan has long supported and used terrorist groups as proxies against India,” she reminded him. She also referenced acknowledgements by former leaders like Pervez Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto, as well as a recent comment by Bilawal Bhutto that backed this view. Tarar was unable to provide a compelling response and instead leaned on Pakistan’s post-9/11 narrative while inviting Hakim to visit the country. Hakim ended the segment with a stark reminder: “Let’s not forget, Osama bin Laden was found hiding in Abbottabad, Pakistan.”
India’s Operation Sindoor targeted nine key terror infrastructure sites, including known Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad launchpads in Mudrike and Bahawalpur.
