As the Norwegian Nobel Committee gets ready to announce the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner in Oslo, attention is now focusing on a wide range of possible contenders. Experts are saying that institutions like the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the United Nations, and figures such as António Guterres are among the top names being considered.

The Nobel Committee many times gives the award not just to indivisual peacebuilders but also to institutions that stands for global cooperation, human rights and conflict solving. In this case, organizations like the ICJ or the UN Refugee Agency seems to have strong reasons for being selected.

Speculations has also been made about U.S. President Donald Trump, mostly because of his recent involvement in the ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas. But experts has said that his chances are very low, because Nobel decisions are mostly taken long before such last minute events. One expert even said that the committee “already made its decision” before the Gaza deal happened.

There are total 338 nominations for 2025, including both people and organizations, but the official names will stay secret for 50 years. Among those being discussed in public talks are Yulia Navalnaya, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and also media freedom groups like Reporters Without Borders.

Looking at the Nobel Committee’s past choices, the winner is expected to represent a symbolic message of justice, peace and humanitarian values. Even though global headlines keeps shifting with new events, real peace work is mostly seen in continous effort, credibility and dedication to Nobel’s original ideas.
