An Indian official confirmed that no Indian diplomats were part of the delegation targeted by Israeli military fire during a visit to the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank on Wednesday (May 21, 2025). The official assured that all Indian staff at the mission are safe. The delegation included diplomats from over 20 countries such as the UK, France, and Canada, who were on an official visit to assess the humanitarian situation, according to the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which condemned the shooting as a “deliberate and unlawful act.”
Unverified videos show Israeli soldiers firing as the delegation retreated from a gate blocking the road, with members urging each other to stay close to the wall. The PA Ministry held the Israeli government fully responsible for the incident and vowed accountability.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the visit had been coordinated but said the delegation strayed from the approved path into a restricted area. The IDF stated their soldiers fired warning shots to push the group back. Following an initial investigation, the IDF expressed regret for the incident and said they would follow up with the delegation.
