The Kremlin stated on Thursday, July 10, 2025, that it does not believe peace negotiations over Ukraine have reached a deadlock, despite recent comments from former U.S. President Donald Trump and Washington's renewed military support for Kyiv.

Trump, speaking on July 8, criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of spreading “a lot of bullshit.” Meanwhile, U.S. officials confirmed the delivery of artillery shells and mobile rocket systems to Ukraine.

When asked by Reuters whether Trump’s remarks and the resumed U.S. arms supplies had stalled the peace process, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded, “No, I don’t think so. You cannot say that.” He noted that Moscow is awaiting a response from Kyiv on its willingness to engage in a third round of negotiations, which began in May in Istanbul.

Peskov reiterated that Russia prefers to achieve its objectives through diplomatic and political avenues. However, he added that until that path becomes viable, the ongoing “special military operation” would continue, with shifting dynamics on the battlefield.

President Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, following years of conflict in eastern Ukraine between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists. According to U.S. estimates, the war has resulted in over 1.2 million casualties, including both deaths and injuries.

Trump, who has consistently positioned himself as a peacemaker, has condemned the war as a “bloodbath” and portrayed it as a proxy conflict between the U.S. and Russia. Despite his public and private appeals for peace, Putin has remained unwavering in his demands.

In June 2024, Putin outlined his conditions for ending the conflict, insisting that Ukraine must formally abandon its ambitions to join NATO and withdraw its military forces from the four regions that Russia claims as its own. Russian troops currently occupy roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory and continue to make advances.
