Khamenei Blasts U.S. and Israel After Ceasefire

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei, on Wednesday accused the United States of being complicit in what he described as Israeli "crimes," referring to Israel as a “cancerous tumour” and the U.S. as its “dog on a leash.” His comments came shortly after Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire, following nearly two weeks of intense hostilities marked by drone and missile exchanges.

Khamenei, quoted by Reuters, stated that opposing both the U.S. and Israel is an honourable act and warned that Iran has the capability to inflict even greater damage on its enemies than what was witnessed during the recent conflict.

He also stressed that Iran is fully prepared to retaliate against any renewed military aggression.

The recent confrontation began on June 13 with an Israeli strike aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Over the following 12 days, Israeli attacks led to the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian military officials, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of civilians. Iranian authorities reported a total death toll of 1,060.

In response, Iran launched waves of drone and missile attacks that resulted in at least 28 deaths in Israel, according to official figures.
Following the conflict, Iran announced it has “no specific date” scheduled for nuclear talks with the United States, as negotiations—previously mediated by Oman—were disrupted by the outbreak of hostilities.

The so-called “12-day war,” a term coined by former U.S. President Donald Trump, escalated when the U.S. joined the conflict on June 22 by conducting airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Using B2 stealth bombers and bunker-buster munitions, the U.S. targeted key enrichment facilities at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. Trump claimed these strikes “completely destroyed” the nuclear sites involved.
