Israel accepts ceasefire with Iran after intense 12-day conflict. Netanyahu announces removal of nuclear threat, while missile attacks and US involvement escala
Israel has confirmed its acceptance of a ceasefire deal with Iran, effectively ending a 12-day military conflict marked by missile strikes and air raids. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country successfully neutralized an immediate existential threat from Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. The statement highlighted that Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) gained air superiority over Tehran’s airspace, inflicted significant damage on Iran’s military leadership, and destroyed numerous strategic targets across the country.
The conflict escalated after Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion,” targeting Iranian military bases and nuclear facilities. Iran retaliated with missile barrages, including an attack on a residential building in Beersheba, Israel, which tragically resulted in the deaths of four civilians. Iranian state media clarified that the missile strikes occurred before the ceasefire was implemented, though the timing caused confusion over the truce’s status. US President Donald Trump publicly supported the ceasefire and called on both nations to honor the agreement, emphasizing the importance of avoiding further violations.
Tensions intensified when the United States entered the conflict, conducting strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow. Iran responded by launching attacks on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq. The hostilities led to significant casualties on both sides, with around 400 fatalities reported in Iran and approximately 24 in Israel. The ceasefire now presents an opportunity for de-escalation after nearly two weeks of intense warfare in the region.
