The Iran-Israel conflict intensified sharply on Thursday after Iran launched a missile equipped with cluster submunitions into central Israel. Israeli authorities confirmed the warhead exploded mid-air, releasing dozens of bomblets across a civilian-populated region, injuring dozens and causing widespread damage. One of the bombs hit Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, wounding at least 40 people and setting parts of the hospital ablaze. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed severe consequences, declaring that Tehran would "pay a heavy price" for the escalation.

Casualties continue to mount on both sides. Israel has confirmed 25 deaths since the fighting began, with new bodies being recovered from earlier missile strikes. Iran, meanwhile, has reported at least 224 fatalities due to Israeli air raids, including military commanders, scientists, and civilians. In response to the latest attack, the Israeli Air Force launched retaliatory strikes targeting Iranian nuclear infrastructure in Natanz and Arak. Officials claim the goal was to disable key components and prevent any future restoration of Iran's nuclear capabilities.

As the region inches closer to a wider conflict, international diplomatic efforts are accelerating. European leaders met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Geneva, pressing for restraint and offering mediation. The UK’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the next two weeks are critical to finding a peaceful solution. The United Nations Security Council is preparing for an emergency session, with backing from Russia, China, and Pakistan. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that he will soon decide on a potential American response, noting that military options remain on the table. Adding to the upheaval, Iran has appointed Brigadier General Majid Khadami as its new intelligence chief after his predecessor was killed in an Israeli strike. With both nations digging in, fears of a regional war are mounting rapidly.
