Indo-Canadian groups have expressed outrage after a speech during a Khalsa Day parade in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Sunday, which called for the expulsion of the community from Canada. The unidentified speaker, using a megaphone, stated that "eight lakh Bharti" (800,000 Hindus) should be sent back to India. Banners at the event featured offensive slogans such as “Kill India” and imagery attacking Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with support for Khalistan and Islamabad.
Though there was no evidence that these floats were part of the sanctioned procession, the incident sparked widespread condemnation. The Canadian Hindu Chamber of Commerce labeled the rhetoric dangerous, while community leaders emphasized that the majority of Indo-Canadians, including 800,000 Hindus, coexist peacefully in Canada.
The Canadian Hindu Volunteers group criticized the radical ideologues behind the rhetoric, while the National Alliance of Indo-Canadians urged Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to take action. This incident echoes previous tensions, including a similar rally last year where slogans like “Canadian Hindus go back to India” were heard, and calls for violence were promoted by Khalistan supporters.
