Harvard faces threats of losing its ability to host international students, including hundreds from India, as the Trump administration demands disciplinary reco
Studying at Harvard, a top Ivy League university, is a dream for many Indian students—but this opportunity could be at risk. Amid escalating tensions with the Trump administration, Harvard has been warned that it may lose its ability to host international students. This follows accusations by Donald Trump, who labeled Harvard a "joke university" over its support of student activism and alleged antisemitism.
A letter from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on April 16 demands Harvard submit disciplinary records of student activists by April 30 or risk losing certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). This would end its eligibility to host international students. The DHS also cancelled $2.7 million in grants and accused the university of fostering a hostile environment for Jewish students.
Despite pressure, Harvard maintains it will not compromise its independence or constitutional rights. With a $53.2 billion endowment, the university has resisted political interference. Over 500 Indian students and scholars attend Harvard annually, and the university maintains deep academic ties with Indian institutions through its centers in New Delhi and Mumbai.
