Gaza health officials reported that the Palestinian death toll in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has exceeded 55,000, with over 127,000 injured. The Gaza Health Ministry, which is part of the Hamas-run government, revealed the figures while hospitals confirmed at least 21 new deaths near aid distribution sites. Israeli forces stated they had fired warning shots at individuals in central Gaza deemed a threat, but provided no comment on deaths reported near Rafah in the south.

Local hospitals in Gaza reported 14 people killed near Rafah and seven more near Deir al-Balah as they approached aid locations. Among the victims was a 16-year-old girl, reportedly shot while attempting to collect food. The aid system, launched last month outside U.N. control, has been marred by disorder and violence. While Israel says the new method aims to prevent aid diversion by Hamas, international agencies criticize it for limiting access and worsening the humanitarian crisis, with famine looming for Gaza’s 2 million residents.

Meanwhile, Israel announced it recovered the remains of two hostages from Khan Younis, one of whom was confirmed killed in the initial October 7 Hamas attack. Israel’s military operation continues with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejecting a long-term ceasefire and stating that Gaza will remain under Israeli control. Hamas, which still holds 53 captives, has demanded a ceasefire, prisoner exchange, and Israeli withdrawal. As fighting escalates, international pressure grows to halt the violence and ensure humanitarian access to a population facing acute hunger and displacement.
