France appoints Sébastien Lecornu as new PM amid rising protests, economic anger, and public unrest.
French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Sébastien Lecornu as the country’s new Prime Minister. This marks France’s fifth Prime Minister in just two years, following the recent resignation of François Bayrou. Lecornu will assume office on Wednesday.
The change comes at a time when the grassroots movement “Block Everything” is gaining momentum. Citizens have taken to the streets against government spending cuts and strict economic policies. In Rennes, protesters set a bus on fire, while in the southwest, they damaged power lines. More than 200 people have been arrested so far.
Analysts say this will be like “walking through fire” for Lecornu. On one hand, he faces a divided parliament; on the other, growing public anger fueled and organized through social media. The “Block Everything” movement is different from unions or political parties—it is a citizen-led initiative calling for boycotts, non-cooperation, and solidarity.
