Former U.S. official Michael Rubin urges Washington to label Pakistan a terror sponsor after the Pahalgam attack, drawing parallels between Gen. Asim Munir and
Michael Rubin, former Pentagon official and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, strongly condemned Pakistan and its military leadership following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. Rubin called for the U.S. to officially designate Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism and label its Army Chief, General Asim Munir, as a terrorist, equating him to Osama Bin Laden. “The only difference between Bin Laden and Munir is the residence,” Rubin said, demanding the same fate for both.
He criticized efforts to normalize relations with Pakistan, stating, “You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.” Rubin accused Pakistan of using terror to distract from U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s visit to India.
He compared the Pahalgam attack to Hamas’ October 7 assault on Israel, emphasizing both targeted peaceful civilians. Rubin asserted that India must respond to Pakistan’s ISI the way Israel responded to Hamas—by eliminating its leadership and pushing global allies to label it a terrorist group.
In response to the attack, India summoned Pakistan's envoy and issued a Persona Non-Grata notice, while an all-party meeting was called to discuss the national security situation.
