Elon Musk says he "regrets" social media posts about Donald Trump, days after their public clash over a government spending bill and criticism tied to Musk’s fo
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has publicly acknowledged regret over his recent social media posts targeting U.S. President Donald Trump. The comments come in the wake of a heated exchange between the two influential figures over a controversial spending bill nicknamed the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” In a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Musk admitted, “I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far.”
The friction began when Musk criticized the massive spending proposal, arguing it would inflate the national deficit and undo the work of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he briefly led. Musk made the comments during an interview with CBS just before his short-term government advisory role came to an end. President Trump, who had initially remained quiet, later responded to the controversy while addressing reporters at the White House, expressing “disappointment” over Musk’s remarks.
In response, Musk took to social media in real time, disputing Trump’s claims and clarifying that he was unaware of the bill’s details prior to its announcement. He maintained that his critique was based on economic concerns, not personal animosity. However, the online back-and-forth quickly drew national attention, fueling speculation about a deeper rift between the two. Musk’s latest statement appears to be an attempt to de-escalate tensions, suggesting a willingness to move beyond the high-profile disagreement. While it remains unclear whether the two will reconcile publicly, Musk’s admission marks a rare moment of reflection from the outspoken entrepreneur.
