Despite being detained by the International Criminal Court, former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte appears to have won a landslide victory in the mayoral race in his home city, according to preliminary results on May 13, 2025. His family also made a stronger-than-expected showing in the Senate race, with at least five family-backed candidates leading the race for 12 seats, surpassing pre-election predictions. This victory is seen as a boost for Duterte's daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, who faces an impeachment trial in July over charges, including alleged misuse of public funds and plotting to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. If convicted, she will lose her position and be permanently disqualified from public office.

Sara Duterte is considered a contender for the 2028 presidency. However, she needs the support of at least nine senators to avoid disqualification. While the official results will be released within a week, preliminary counts show Duterte securing over half a million votes in Davao City, leading his nearest rival by a significant margin. His family members, including his sons and grandsons, also performed well in local races, demonstrating the family's enduring political influence.
