Dream11 CEO Harsh Jain slams Tesla for refunding his $1,000 Model 3 booking. He says the move turns Indian Tesla fans into haters after nearly a decade-long wai
Dream11 co-founder and CEO Harsh Jain has publicly criticized Tesla after the electric vehicle company refunded his $1,000 reservation fee for a Model 3 he booked back in 2017. Jain expressed his frustration on social media, tagging Tesla CEO Elon Musk and accusing the company of disregarding the loyalty of Indian fans and early adopters. He stated that he had booked the vehicle with high hopes when Tesla first hinted at entering the Indian market, but after nearly ten years of anticipation, he only received a refund with no priority benefit.
In his post, Jain pointed out that had he invested the $1,000 in Tesla stock instead of reserving the vehicle, it would have grown significantly in value, up to $20,000 today. He argued that Tesla’s move to simply return the original booking amount, without honoring the early commitment or offering any priority access for the upcoming India launch, reflects poorly on the company’s customer values. Jain emphasized that such actions could erode the trust and enthusiasm of Tesla’s Indian fan base.
Tesla responded by explaining that the Model 3 reserved in 2017 has since been phased out and that the company is still finalizing its product lineup for India. Tesla acknowledged the patience of early supporters and assured that they would be contacted once the new offerings are confirmed. Meanwhile, Tesla has initiated its presence in India, leasing warehouse space in Mumbai and listing job openings, though it remains unclear whether the company will begin local manufacturing.
