Canada Issues Travel Advisory Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions Following Air Strikes

Canada has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting Jammu & Kashmir and areas within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border. The advisory comes after India conducted precision air strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. These strikes also marked the first time since 1971 that India targeted sites in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

The Canadian advisory cited rising tensions and artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in J&K’s Poonch, where 12 civilians and one soldier were killed. It warned that the situation could escalate quickly and advised travellers to follow local instructions, including responding to air-raid sirens and evacuation orders. It also noted potential air travel disruptions due to the closure of 27 airports in northern India and 25 international flight routes.

Canadians were urged to exercise high caution in India and avoid border areas in Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan. A parallel advisory for Pakistan mentioned airspace closures and heightened alerts in cities like Islamabad and Lahore. Pakistan has vowed to respond to India’s actions at a time and place of its choosing.
