Aftershocks of Tragedy: Afghanistan Earthquake Claims Hundreds of Lives

Date: Sep 01, 2025 | Source: Fela news

A late-night tremor in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces turned catastrophic when a magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck near Kunar and Nangarhar, claiming more than 600 lives and leaving around 1,500 wounded.

Officials say at least 622 people have died and more than 1,500 people have been injured, as the houses collapsed and the remote villages were flattened by earthquakes. These shocks were felt from Kabul to Pakistan. Islamabad also shocked and a stir was recorded in some parts of India - it is a scary remind of how much the entire region is associated with seismic instability.

Relief and rescue operations started immediately. Helicopters, medical teams and local volunteers started taking out the injured from the debris -covered villages, although the aftershocks obstructed relief operations. The hilly areas, narrow roads and earthen houses made this rescue mission a fight on time.

This figure of human damage, which is more than the initial estimate, highlights the fragility of the structure and insecurity of rural communities. Along with over 2,800 injured people, medical aid, shelter and clean water demand is heavy. The United Nations and local agencies are now trying to provide humanitarian aid in challenging circumstances.

Families are left grieving, villages are vanished, and the road to recovery will be long. This disaster underscores how fragile safety nets are in hard-to-reach regions and how swiftly nature can overwhelm.
