India captain Shubman Gill has broken into the top 10 of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings for the first time, following a sensational performance in Birmingham. Gill, who scored 269 and 161 in the second Test against England, became only the second player in Test history to register scores over 150 in both innings of a match. His incredible 430-run match total pushed him up 15 spots to a career-best No. 6 in the world. Gill had entered the series ranked 23rd and now has 585 runs from just two Tests, with three more matches still to play. His previous highest ranking was 14th in September 2023.

England’s Harry Brook also climbed in the rankings, reclaiming the No. 1 position after his 158-run knock at Edgbaston. Brook overtook teammate Joe Root, who fell to second place after failing in both innings and losing 18 rating points.

India’s Ravindra Jadeja made gains as well, rising six places to 39th among batters after scoring 89 and an unbeaten 69. England’s debutant wicketkeeper Jamie Smith soared 16 places to break into the top 10, following impressive scores of 184* and 88.

Indian bowlers also saw improvements: Mohammad Siraj jumped six spots to 22nd after taking seven wickets in the match, while Akash Deep rose a massive 39 places to 45th after a 10-wicket haul in his second Test.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder made headlines with an unbeaten 367 in Bulawayo, lifting him 34 places to No. 22 in the batting rankings. He also climbed to 48th among bowlers after taking three wickets in the same match.
