Gujarat’s former captain Priyank Panchal, who also captained India A and was part of the senior national squad, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) confirmed on Monday, May 26, 2025.
The 35-year-old right-handed opener had an impressive domestic career, playing 127 First-Class matches and scoring 8,856 runs at an average of 45.18, which included 29 centuries and 34 half-centuries. In List A cricket, Panchal featured in 97 matches, amassing 3,672 runs at 40.80 with eight centuries and 21 fifties. He also played 59 T20 matches, scoring 1,522 runs at 28.71, including nine fifties.
“Gujarat Cricket Association congratulates Mr. Priyank Panchal on a remarkable career. He has announced his retirement from all formats of the game on Sunday, May 26, 2025,” said GCA secretary Anil Patel. “Priyank has been a consistent performer for over 17 years, representing Gujarat and leading India A.”
Panchal was called up to the Indian Test squad as a replacement for the injured Rohit Sharma and was included among the reserve openers in the 2021 Test series against England. His standout season came in 2016-17, when he scored 1,310 runs in the Ranji Trophy, including a career-best 314*, helping Gujarat clinch the title.
He also played key roles in Gujarat’s triumphs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015–16) and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2012–13, 2013–14).
