Lucknow Super Giants face playoff elimination after a fourth straight loss in IPL 2025, marred by a heated altercation between Digvesh Rathi and Abhishek Sharma
Lucknow Super Giants suffered their fourth straight defeat in IPL 2025, officially ending their playoff hopes, but the match was overshadowed by a heated incident between spinner Digvesh Rathi and Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma. The clash began when Rathi dismissed Abhishek and celebrated by pulling out a notebook, which angered the SRH player. Abhishek charged at Rathi, leading to a confrontation that required intervention from umpires and teammates. The tension continued after the match during their handshake, when LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya unexpectedly slapped Abhishek. However, the situation was eventually calmed when BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla stepped in, and the two players ended up embracing.
Afterwards, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having a friendly chat with Abhishek Sharma, accompanied by teammate Ishan Kishan. Speaking about the clash, Abhishek said the players spoke post-match and things were fine now.
Despite resolving their differences, both players faced BCCI penalties. Rathi, committing his third Level 1 offense, was fined 50% of his match fees and given two additional demerit points, bringing his total to five and resulting in a ban for LSG’s next game against Gujarat Titans. Abhishek was fined 25% of his fees and received one demerit point.
