India's women's cricket team sealed a landmark T20I series victory over England, winning the fourth match by six wickets to take an unassailable 3–1 lead.
India secured a historic victory on Wednesday (July 9, 2025), clinching their first-ever bilateral Women’s T20I series win over England with a commanding six-wicket win in the fourth match of the five-game series. The triumph gave India an unassailable 3–1 lead, with the final match set for Saturday (July 12) in Birmingham.
Until now, India had never won a T20I series—home or away—against England, having only managed a single win in a one-off match in Derby back in 2006. This time, the spin trio of Radha Yadav (2/15), 20-year-old Shree Charani (2/30), and Deepti Sharma (1/29) played a key role in restricting England to just 126 for 7.
Openers Shafali Verma (32) and Smriti Mandhana (31) then stitched together a breezy 56-run partnership that laid the groundwork for India’s chase. The team reached the target with 18 balls to spare, sealing a memorable win.
The result is especially significant as India continues to adapt to English conditions ahead of next year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in the UK.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, speaking at the post-match presentation, said, “We’re grateful for this series win. I’m so proud of the team. Everyone understood their roles and executed the plans we prepared for in training camps back home.”
India had started the series with a record 97-run win—their largest margin over England in T20Is—followed by a 24-run victory in Bristol, where they handed England their first-ever T20I loss at the venue. The only setback came in the third T20I, which India narrowly lost by five runs.
In the fourth match, England opted to bat first but were quickly pegged back by India’s spinners. Early strikes from Radha and Deepti during the powerplay removed both openers. Stand-in captain Tammy Beaumont, filling in for the injured Nat Sciver-Brunt, briefly fought back with a quick 16-ball 20, but Radha dismissed her shortly after. Charani followed up by trapping Alice Capsey leg-before, reducing England to 93 for 5.
India’s tight fielding and disciplined bowling stifled England’s scoring through the middle overs, leaving them with a below-par total.
During the chase, Shafali took on the English bowlers with six boundaries, while Mandhana added five more. Though both fell mid-innings, Jemimah Rodrigues (24\*) and Harmanpreet (26) calmly guided India to the finish line despite a boundary-less phase between overs 8 and 14.
