With the highly anticipated five-match Test series between India and England set to begin on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds, Indian cricket fans are eager to learn about the playing XI. Ahead of the series, Indian captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir held a press conference at the BCCI headquarters. Gambhir lauded the recent form of middle-order batsman Karun Nair, signaling his potential inclusion in the team. Meanwhile, Gill remained cautious, stating that the final squad will be decided after arriving in England and completing the practice sessions.
Karun Nair’s impressive performances in recent matches have put him in the spotlight. He scored a double century against England Lions representing India-A and amassed 863 runs in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. Gambhir emphasized Nair’s valuable experience playing in English conditions, recalling his historic triple century against England in 2016. According to Gambhir, such experience will be crucial on England’s challenging pitches, making Nair a strong contender for the playing XI.
While the team management has revealed a tentative list including Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (captain), Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper/vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Reddy, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, the final playing XI remains undecided. Gill reiterated that the team will finalize its selections only after the England training camp. The series promises intense competition as India aims to assert dominance on foreign soil.
