India's Rishabh Pant faces ICC reprimand for dissent at Headingley Test against England. Despite disciplinary action, his historic twin centuries keep India fir
India's star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for showing dissent during the Headingley Test against England. The incident took place on Day 3 of the first Test match, where Pant expressed visible frustration at an umpiring decision during England’s innings. The ICC confirmed that Pant breached Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct, which pertains to "showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match." This Level 1 breach resulted in an official reprimand and the addition of one demerit point to his disciplinary record.
The moment occurred in the 61st over of England’s first innings, when Rishabh Pant disagreed with the umpires' decision to continue using the same ball after checking it with a ball gauge. Following the officials’ verdict, Pant threw the ball on the ground in visible frustration, an act that prompted the on-field umpires, along with the third and fourth officials, to report him. Match referee Richie Richardson handed the reprimand after Pant accepted the charge without contest, avoiding a formal hearing. This marks Pant’s first disciplinary offence in a 24-month period.
Despite the sanction, Pant continues to be a pivotal figure in India’s Test campaign. He scored centuries in both innings at Headingley, becoming only the second wicketkeeper in Test history, after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower, to achieve this feat. His 118-run knock in the second innings, supported by KL Rahul’s century, lifted India to a total of 364. However, a late-order collapse left England needing 371 to win. At stumps on Day 4, the hosts were 21 without loss, setting the stage for a dramatic finish on Day 5 as both teams eye a critical series lead.
