SRH head coach Daniel Vettori credits Nitish Kumar Reddy’s IPL 2025 dip to injury and role challenges, expressing confidence in the young all-rounder’s comeback
Daniel Vettori commented on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s somewhat underwhelming IPL 2025 season, especially considering his key role in SRH’s lineup during IPL 2024. The SRH head coach acknowledged that batting at positions four or five can be challenging for young players, as maintaining a good scoring rate from those spots isn’t easy.
Vettori expressed confidence in Reddy’s ability to construct innings from difficult situations and then accelerate effectively against both spin and pace when in form. He viewed Nitish’s struggles this season as just a temporary setback and didn’t delve too deeply into his performance issues, emphasizing that Reddy is a talented all-rounder who will surely bounce back.
“It’s always a tough role at No. 4 or 5, but we know Nitish, at his best, can build an innings and then finish strongly against both pace and spin. I think this season has been a learning experience for him, but he’s too skilled not to come back stronger,” Vettori said during the post-match press conference following SRH’s win over KKR.
Regarding Reddy’s reduced bowling, Vettori revealed that the player was carrying a side strain injury when the tournament began and had to manage a careful recovery.
“He came into the tournament with a side strain, and his return was gradual and cautious. His limited bowling was purely due to that injury,” Vettori added.
Throughout IPL 2025, Reddy scored 182 runs in 11 innings, averaging 22.75 with a strike rate of 118.95. He has been selected for India’s upcoming tour of England, where he will aim to continue his promising form in Test cricket.
