Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar speaks out selection is beyond performance; he keeps giving his best with dignity.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, one of India’s most experienced and beloved seamers, finds himself out of the national team for nearly three years. Recently, he broke his silence and with refreshing honesty.
Speaking during the UP T20 League, Bhuvneshwar didn’t mince words:
“I give my 100 percent on the field. Selection is not in my hands.”
A player with 121 ODIs, 21 Tests and 87 T20Is behind him, Bhuvneshwar has endured the sting of being left out despite delivering consistent performances. He said, "No matter how well you perform, sometimes luck doesn’t favour you."
His point about merit rings loud. He emphasized that the only thing under his control is his effort whether he gets another India call-up or not. His disciplined focus on fitness and accuracy remains unwavering.
There’s soft optimism, too. When asked if the appointment of Rajeev Shukla as BCCI president might open doors, he responded thoughtfully, “Your performance is paramount. If someone plays good cricket consistently, they cannot be ignored for long.”
Now captaining the Lucknow Falcons, Bhuvneshwar is in peak shape. With India heading to Australia later this year, many fans hope his domestic form will force selectors to reconsider. Not just for the wickets he can take but for the humility and grace with which he faces uncertainty.
In an age of spotlight-chasing, Bhuvneshwar’s grounded perspective is a reminder: consistency, character, and effort matter selection is another game altogether.
