India's Bengaluru Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star AB de Villiers has fiercely defended the team's bowlers after a thrilling victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2025. He has taken goal at what he describes it’s "unfair and lazy" criticism, even though RCB was able to chase down a challenging target of 228 runs.

De Villiers, visibly incensed, expressed his frustration with several cricket commentators and broadcasters who, in his view, unfairly pick out the RCB bowling attack. "It's painful to hear such innocent remarks," he stated, particularly dismissing comments marks the bowlers "useless" without a thorough analysis of the match conditions.

While acknowledging the large total conceded, de Villiers stressed that a 228 run target was never easy, especially on a pitch that wasn't particularly batting-friendly after the innings break. He mention that the bowlers "fought hard under pressure" and that the thrilling win was a test evidence of "skill, determination , and a little bit of luck."

A close friend of RCB captain Virat Kohli, de Villiers' sentiment, describes how analysts seemed "fixated on a particular narrative" and failed to acknowledge the credit due to the RCB bowlers. The friend emphasized that dismissing the bowlers so quickly, merely because RCB has yet to win a championship, is deeply unfair.

De Villiers also addressed the exceptional knock of Rishabh Pant, who scored an incredible 118 off around 60 balls for LSG. He and his teammates felt that such performance was an outlier, not certainly  expected given the match condition. Conversely, de Villiers highlighted that the LSG bowlers, despite facing an onslaught, had generally bowled effectively and made scoring difficult for RCB's batters, who ultimately overcame the challenges.

Despite a few conceded mistakes by RCB's bowling unit, de Villiers urged a focus on the "wider picture." He reiterated that defending 227 on that particular pitch was always going to be an immense challenge. The victory, he insisted, clearly demonstrated RCB's "perseverance and determination," proving that their bowlers were not "swamped."

De Villiers concluded by advocating for a more objective and analytical approach to commentary, one that truly "takes into account the complexities of cricket rather than making rash conclusions." The electrifying finish to the match, he noted, served as a powerful reminder of why "every ball can alter the result and why the IPL remains one of the most fascinating tournament."
