Tejashwi Yadav welcomes the Centre's caste census decision, urging it to lead to real social reforms. He emphasizes the need for policy changes, reservation rev
Tejashwi Yadav, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has welcomed the Centre’s decision to include caste-based data in the upcoming national census. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yadav described the move as “transformative” and crucial for advancing equality in the country. He urged the government to ensure that the data results in meaningful policy changes.
Yadav expressed “cautious optimism,” acknowledging that the NDA government had long opposed a caste census, labeling it divisive. He pointed out that Bihar faced resistance from the Centre when it conducted its own caste survey, despite it revealing that OBCs and EBCs make up about 63% of the state's population.
Yadav stressed that the caste census should not be the end but the first step towards social justice. He called for a review of reservation policies, the removal of arbitrary caps, and proportional political representation for marginalized groups in state and national legislatures. He also highlighted the need for the private sector to align with social justice goals, ensuring inclusivity across all levels.
