Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) on May 1 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The four-day event, jointly organized by the Centre and Maharashtra government, aims to bring together the full spectrum of the media and entertainment industry. Modi is expected to spend nearly 10 hours at the summit, participating in a CEO roundtable and meeting young global creators from the ‘Create in India’ challenges.
The event will feature immersive zones at the Creatosphere, spanning VR, animation, gaming, films, music, and more. Modi will also unveil the Bharat Pavilion, themed ‘Kala to Code’, celebrating India’s storytelling legacy and future. The summit’s opening will feature a musical invocation by MM Keeravaani, followed by “Sutradhar Reinvented” narrated by Sharad Kelkar.
Top film personalities including Aamir Khan, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, and Deepika Padukone will attend, with plenary sessions on AI in media, copyright, and AVGC-XR’s future. Day 1 includes star-studded panels and cultural performances. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will lead the Global Media Dialogue. Officials suggest WAVES could become India’s Davos for media and entertainment.
