In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Moti Ram Jat, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), on charges of espionage for allegedly sharing classified information with Pakistan Intelligence Officers. The arrest was made in Delhi after intelligence inputs revealed that Jat had been leaking sensitive data for almost two years in exchange for monetary benefits. Following his arrest, a special court remanded him to NIA custody until June 6 for further interrogation.

According to officials, Jat was under surveillance after his social media activities raised red flags during routine checks conducted jointly by the CRPF and central agencies. It was discovered that he had violated official protocols by communicating with foreign intelligence handlers. Before being taken into NIA custody, Jat was questioned extensively by both CRPF authorities and central intelligence operatives. The CRPF has since terminated his services, citing gross misconduct and breach of national security protocols. He was previously posted in Kashmir and came under scrutiny due to suspicious online behavior.

This arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on espionage activities linked to Pakistan. Just two days earlier, a contractual health worker from Gujarat's Kutch district was also apprehended for allegedly sharing military-related information with Pakistani handlers. The developments unfold against the tense backdrop of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and ‘Operation Sindoor’ launched by Indian forces. Over the past fortnight, at least 14 individuals across India have been arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan. Authorities believe these espionage cases pose a grave threat to national security, prompting tighter monitoring and swift action by the country’s intelligence and security apparatus.
